Making Web Accessibility More Accessible for Everyone
AccessibilityHub.org is a curated and organized collection of free information, resources, tools, and guides about web accessibility.
What is Web Accessibility?
Short version:
Web Accessibility means making sure everyone can use your website.
Long version:
Web Accessibility is the inclusive practice of ensuring that websites and web applications are designed and developed so that people with disabilities have equal access to information and functionality.
Why is Web Accessibility Important?
The largest minority group in the world is people with disabilities, representing roughly ~15% of the global population (over 1 billion people worldwide). Including this group when considering access to your websites and web applications is critical to ensure that they are usable by everyone.
Getting Started
Being fully compliant against either WCAG 2.1 or WCAG 2.2 standards is a great, long-term goal to work towards.
But that takes time. And it's very easy to get overwhelmed or discouraged if you try to do everything at once.
To work towards that goal, it's incredibly important to start small and build on progress. One of the best first steps for any business/website owner will always be starting with scanning your live website for issues, and then auditing the results.
